Ports North is responsible for the development and management of port facilities vital to the economic growth of Cairns and regional centres in Far North Queensland.  The Corporation has extensive property, marina, tourism and cargo facilities in Cairns and its regional ports. 

Reporting to the Manager Legal, Risk & Compliance you will coordinate the legal compliance, corporate governance and business resilience functions of Ports North including maintaining the day-to-day activities of ongoing governance, management, reporting, training and support for the Protecht Enterprise Risk Management and Compliance Management software solution.

We are seeking a person with similar previous experience preferably in corporate governance and legal compliance.  Prior experience with enterprise risk and compliance management systems such as Protecht ERM and possession of highly effective communication skills, strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships will enable you to take complete ownership of this role.  Main responsibilities will include:

  •  Provide support to Manager Legal, Risk & Compliance to develop, implement and manage strategies and procedures to deliver effective legal compliance, risk management and corporate governance in support of Ports North’s statutory obligations and requirements.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of ongoing governance, management, reporting, training, and support for the Protecht solution, including ongoing development of reports and dashboards in Protecht to meet all statutory reporting requirements of the organisation.
  • Lead the implementation of the Operational Resilience project in Protecht.
  • Lead the ongoing system improvement and functionality liaising with Protecht.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to ensuring compliance obligations are met.
  • Coordinate government reporting requirements ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulation, and policies.
  • Co-ordinate development and review of corporate policies in accordance with the Policy Review & Development Framework and develop required policies for area of responsibility.
  • Maintain Insurance, Development Assessment and Gift registers ensuring they are up to date and accurate.
  • Maintain appropriate systems, procedures, and controls to ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and timeliness of information within the workplace at all times.
  • Actively contribute to our team’s effectiveness.
  • Promote safety and maintain a safe working environment in accordance with the Safety Policies.
  • Promote environmental awareness and ensure environmental risks are identified, minimised and operations are undertaken in accordance with Environmental Policies.
