Tropical Cyclone Jasper Update #3

Published: 14 December 2023

With TC Jasper passing overnight, Ports North staff that haven’t been personally impacted are back at work.

From early this morning, we have been inspecting the Ports of Cairns and Mourilyan to ensure that the assets and infrastructure are safe for vessels to return. The Cairns Marlin Marina is ready to accept vessels and at 11.47am the Port of Cairns moved from Red to Yellow.

The Regional Harbour Master has declared the Port of Cairns is now open and advised that vessels under 50-meters are now permitted to leave their cyclone moorings. Vessels 50-meters and over are still not permitted to move. There are ongoing power and services issues at the Marina and other areas of the port that will be progressively addressed throughout the day.

At this stage, the ports of Cape Flattery, Cooktown and Mourilyan remain on red alert.
