Cairns Marine Precinct - Common User Facility
Background
The Cairns Marine Precinct (CMP) is a leading maritime destination in Northern Australia, supporting a diverse and well-established defence and commercial maritime maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector.
With growing defence, commercial and superyacht opportunities, the CMP is entering an exciting new phase. Working in partnership with the Australian Federal and Queensland State Governments, Ports North is committed to delivering the Common User Facility (CUF) which will provide the uplift in infrastructure needed to unlock future growth, strengthen industry capability and reinforce Cairns as a leading maritime maintenance hub for Northern Australia. The development of the facility will be supported by significant financial commitments from both State and Federal Governments underpinning the strong support for the project.
The Facility
The proposed full scope of the CUF will deliver:
- a 5,000-tonne shiplift capable of lifting vessels up to 120 metres
- all-weather, climate-controlled sheds for blasting and painting
- 100m wet berth for in water maintenance
- Hardstand areas for out of water repair and maintenance works
- supporting infrastructure including washdown bays and a Self Propelled Modular Transporter.
The Opportunity
A unique opportunity now exists to establish a strategic partnership with Ports North to co-fund, design, build and operate the facility with a long-term agreement providing certainty for an investor in an established and growing maritime maintenance market.
Ports North are now inviting industry participants to register for an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. Ports North are also open to hearing from industry any alternative, innovative solutions that will deliver the uplift in capability and capacity that the project seeks to achieve.
