MANAGER OPERATIONS - PORT OF CAIRNS

An excellent opportunity exists for a dedicated, hands-on and proactive individual responsible for the management of day to day activities of our Cairns based Plant & Maintenance Team, Seaport Operations Team and Marina Team and build and maintain good relationships with customers and stakeholders to provide services to the Port of Cairns and Marlin Marina.

 Reporting to the General Manager Operations the main responsibilities will include:

  •  Manage the day-to-day operational activities, resources and facility use in the Port of Cairns to deliver effective and efficient service to port users, customers and stakeholders whilst meeting all regulatory requirements
  • Provide direction to the Shipping Services Manager to ensure the delivery of port and facility services 
  • Provide direction to the Plant and Maintenance Team Leader for the effective management and delivery of afloat services including small vessel operations, pilot transfers, pile driving and removal and Ports North conducted maintenance dredging activities
  • Manage the towage operations across the Port with support from the Commercial Team
  • Manage the certification, compliance and maintenance requirements of all Ports North afloat plant in accordance with applicable maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements
  • Hold the deputy port security officer position for Cairns and provide direction to the Shipping Services Manager in the provision of all cruise terminal and cruise shipping operational activities including liaison with statutory organisations
  • Provide direction to the Marina Supervisor in the management of rostering, security provision in the marina, engagement with customers, commercial operators and the public, and WHS practices of the marina team
  • Develop positive customer relationships with marina operators, superyacht clients, port users, and other key stakeholders to ensure their requirements are met in a commercially sound and timely manner
  • In coordination with the Shipping Services Manager and Marina Supervisor, prepare and deliver emergency and security exercises and drills
  • Ensure the currency of emergency, security and business continuity plans for the Port and marina, and participate in emergency and crisis management teams
  • Assist the General Manager Operations in the production and management of the operations and security annual budgets
  • In consultation with General Manager Operations develop systems and procedures to deliver services to meet the needs of port users, customers and stakeholders
  • Assist the General Manager Operations with all management reporting including the coordination of financial and operational data and development of reports as required
  • In coordination with MSQ, manage oil spill compliance requirements for the Port of Cairns and the Marlin Marina
  • Provide timely support and assistance for emergency response procedures
  • Deputise as the General Manager Operations and represent Ports North at internal and external meetings as required
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of safe work procedures for the Operations team
  • Participate in development and promotion of a strong team environment
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of safe work procedures for the Operations area in consultation with the WHS Advisor

The position requires maritime operational management and technical experience focused on delivering outcomes.  Personal attributes will include the capability to influence and gain the commitment of others using strong interpersonal and relationship skills.

A Current drivers licence and the ability to satisfy the criteria for obtaining a Maritime Security Identification Card is essential
