Ports North welcomes cruise ship Boudicca
Published: 7 January 2020
She has had long and impressive history in the cruise shipping industry under many names, has undergone several makeovers throughout her 47 years, and now the Boudicca will be welcomed to the Cairns Cruise Liner Terminal tomorrow (Wed Jan 8), for her very first visit to the port.
Carrying 954 passengers and crew, the ship is scheduled to dock at 0800hrs arriving from Townsville. She will remain for two nights before leaving on January 10 at 1400hrs, with 920 passengers and crew, bound for Alotau, PNG.
The Captain of the vessel will be presented with a commemorative plaque by Ports North to mark the maiden visit to Cairns.
The Boudicca has travelled as a luxury liner around the world, as well as in the Baltic Sea and between North and South Korea, and most recently she was the first passenger ship to dock in Namibia.
She was first known as the Royal Viking Sky (for Royal Viking Line), then as the Sunward (for Norwegian Cruise Line), Birka Queen (with Birka Cruises), Golden Princess (with Princess Cruises), SuperStar Capricorn (with Star Cruises), Hyundai Keumgang (with Hyundai Merchant Marine) and Grand Latino (with Viajes Iberojet [now Iberocruceros]).
She has been lengthened, refurbished and was rebuilt in 2005 - when she entered service with the Fred Olsen Cruise Lines. In 2018 she was given another significant renovation to maintain what her followers describe as her “timeless elegance”.
